Reloader v2.0 (Pre-v11 Support, auto-load)
Reloader v2 – Mesh Map Auto Loader for Substance 3D Painter
Author: AurifexChandra
Tested on Substance 3D Painter versions 8.1.2 to 10.1.0
ABOUT
-----
Reloader v2 is a Python script for Adobe Substance 3D Painter that simplifies the process of loading and reloading mesh maps.
It's especially useful when baking maps in external software (e.g., Marmoset Toolbag, xNormal) and reimporting them into Painter—ideal for UDIM/UV tile workflows.
HOW IT WORKS
------------
Main Mode (Recommended)
- Uses a naming format: materialName_mapType.extension
Example: skin_mtl_ao.png
- Automatically detects and assigns maps to the correct slots.
- Includes Auto Reload: watches the folder and reloads updated maps automatically.
Legacy Mode
- Compares file names between existing resources and selected folder contents.
- Best used when not following the naming convention.
- Allows manual selection and refresh of matching files.
INSTALLATION
------------
1. Extract the file "reloader_v2_chandra.py".
2. Copy it to the Painter plugins folder:
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\Adobe\Adobe Substance 3D Painter\python\plugins
Tip: In Painter, go to Python > Plugins Folder to open this directory.
3. In Painter:
- Go to Python > Reload Plugins Folder
- Go to Python > reloader_v2_chandra to launch the tool
4. To reopen or dock the tool later:
Window > Views > Reloader v2
USAGE
-----
Main Method:
------------
1. Name your mesh maps using the format: materialName_mapType.extension
Example: skinMat_curve.psd
2. Browse to your directory.
3. Optional: Adjust filters and UV tile settings in the Settings tab.
4. Click "Search Maps".
5. Select the maps you want to load.
6. Click "Load Maps"
OR
Click "Auto Reload" to enable live updating (click again to turn off).
Legacy Method:
--------------
1. Ensure baked maps match existing resource names in the project.
2. Optional: Enable UV tile mode and use suffix like ".1001", ".1002", etc.
Example: obj_normal.1001.png
3. Specify the file extension (e.g., .png, .psd, .tiff)
4. Click "List Matches".
5. Select the matching maps.
6. Click "Reload".
NOTE:
-----
- Reloading may take time depending on project size and complexity.
- Always save your project before running.
- Auto Reload is best used while testing bakes, not during final production work.
KNOWN ISSUES
------------
In Legacy Mode, maps may update in the "Assets" window but not appear in "Texture Set Settings".
Solution:
- Manually drag the maps from the Assets window into the correct slots in the Texture Set Settings.
